“I am woman hear me roar” – My thoughts on Palin’s Powerful speech

“Here’s a little news flash…” as Sarah would say…. after days of enduring the media and bloggers hammer Sarah Palin, it was great to hear her ROAR!!!

I literally hung on to every word. She was tough and tender, caring and firm. After years of working with special needs children I can only imagine what her words to parents of special needs children meant….”when I am in office I will be your friend- your advocate”.

Palin spoke the language that I can understand. She cut to the heart of issues, events, feelings, emotions. She did not need a Styrofoam set of columns and a wild throng of people in a new and different place to feed her ego. She had what I wanted, yes needed, to hear and see and feel. A smile, a kiss blown to a veteran of war, an ‘I love you, mom’. She wowed me with her love of her family, even as she is going through a very public and challenging time in her life.

I love the pride she has in Alaska and small town life. I like knowing that she (and John McCain) will not put me down when she is speaking to others who think they are superior to me. In short- I can trust Sarah Palin.

She came out, held her head high, and showed she has a lot of guts, a strong spine, and a good heart. It’s enough for me.

As I thought about what I would write and how to say what I am feeling,  the words of the following song came to my middle aged mind. The words seem very fitting so I am sharing them with you. Enjoy.

“I am woman, hear me roar”by  Helen Reddy and Ray Burton

I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an’ pretend
‘Cause I’ve heard it all before
And I’ve been down there on the floor
No one’s ever gonna keep me down again

Oh yes, I am wise
But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to
I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

You can bend but never break me
‘Cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
‘Cause you’ve deepened the conviction in my soul

Oh, yes, I am wise
But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to
I can face anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

I am woman watch me grow
See me standing toe to toe
As I spread my lovin’ arms across the land
But I’m still an embryo
With a long, long way to go
Until I make my brother understand

Oh, yes, I am wise
But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to
I can face anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman…

As I type this I hear the media say the democrats say that Palin’s voice was “shrill”, that men do not like to be politically evicerated in public. ‘Palin came out swinging and others will start to swing back”. Excuse me, who started the swinging in the first place???!!! This picking apart her speech continues tonight and will continue tomorrow. I am not surprised.
Tough. Get used to it. You dish it out so now just take it. I don’t feel a bit sorry for you.
I, too, am woman…. and I am firmly in Sarah Palin’s corner.

  1. I thought as I watched and listened- no wonder JM could make a decision in 15 minutes! She delivered that speech with no “ums” and was very expressive.

I can see lots of “small town” songs are going to be BIG as this small town girl makes the BIG TIME! Only in America!!!!!!!!

  2. A pit bull with lipstick.
I think people had better not underestimate this one.

  3. Just heard Obama interviewed… something like Palin must want to be treated like a man. He sounded prickly to me.

He must have been squirming last night- and probably good for him there was no open mike or camera/cell phone!

  4. And… did you hear the crowd “roar” when Palin walked onto the stage! Wow!!!!!

And in my living room my friends and I were yelling “Sarah, Sarah, Sarah!!!!!”

    We had our own roar!!!!

    Awesome!

  5. Watching the post McCain speech. A young woman was being interviewed in New York City. She had a sign on her shirt that said: READ MY LIPSTICK! She is thrilled with the pick of Palin.

    AWESOME!

  6. enjoyed watching Palin in the debate… but not the media and experts who were quick to pick apart everything from her “folksy accent” to her views on the role of a VP.

The media could just wear a person down with their holier than thou mentality. Really, anyone outside of NY or DC does not know much – my take on their take.

    Sad but true.

So glad my remote has batteries and I could hit the OFF button and savor a good night for Sarah. Keith OOOOOO is probably still ranting bad things about Sarah but he can rant to someone else!
    Way to go sarah!
